I came to photography sideways
Through a printmaking degree and four years in a darkroom that smelled permanently of fixer. That background still shapes how I work: slowly, with attention to what light is actually doing, and with a strong preference for getting it right in the frame rather than afterwards.
I photograph around twenty weddings a year. That is deliberately fewer than I could take, because the alternative is arriving at your day tired.
The camera is a reason to pay closer attention than you otherwise would. That is the whole job.

How I work
Documentary, mostly. Directed, briefly.
For roughly ninety per cent of a wedding day I am photographing what is already happening. I do not stage moments, I do not ask people to walk back through a doorway, and I will never interrupt a conversation for a better angle.
The other ten per cent is portraits. For about twenty minutes I will take the two of you somewhere with good light and give you genuine direction. Most people find this part far less painful than they expect.
