What actually happens in the hour before a ceremony

Almost every couple builds their timeline backwards from the ceremony. What gets squeezed, every single time, is the hour immediately before — the one where nothing is scheduled and everything happens.

Give it forty-five minutes, not fifteen

This is when your mother sees you finished for the first time. When your oldest friend fastens something you cannot reach. These are not filler frames between the real events; for most couples they end up being the photographs that live on the wall.

Keep the room small

Six people in a room with good light is a photograph. Sixteen people is a crowd scene. Be deliberate about who is in there.

One practical note: face the window. Clear the space in front of the largest window and get dressed there. It costs nothing and it is worth more than any amount of equipment I can carry.
